December raw anomaly data (orange)

In December, raw values for daily maximum and daily minimum temperature anomaly, which had been very high in October and November, returned to normal. Rainfall and cloud became higher than normal.

 Fully smoothed data (red)

In the latest month with fully smoothed data (June 2015) no anomalies were changing much. Most were near cool/moist climate peaks (towards the lower left): only daily minimum temperature and subsoil temperature were near warm/dry peaks. None of these peaks had extreme values.

June 2015 rather wet

The first week of June was cold but sunny, the second warm, and the rest not quite so warm. Rain registered (unofficially) on the 17th was 54.5 mm. That was close to the record June day of rainfall at Manilla Post Office: 55.1 mm on 18/6/1930.
The early morning minimum of the 17th was extremely warm, at 12.8°: the fifth warmest for June. There were 12 frosts (as usual) but none was severe. On two mornings, fog persisted past nine o-clock.

Most monthly averages were near normal. Daily minima were up one degree, and morning dew points down one degree.
While lower than in June 2013, the total rainfall of 74.4 mm is high: in the 82nd percentile. Among rainfall totals for more than one month, there are no serious shortages. The lowest percentile value (11th) is for the 24-month total of 996 mm.

In March, the daily maximum temperature anomaly became very high (+1.6 degrees), but not nearly as high as the raw value had been in November (+5.1 degrees). Most other anomalies moved up the graphs towards “droughts” but not beyond normal values. Dew point remained as low as in February, and rainfall returned from very low to normal.

The latest fully-smoothed data anomalies (September 2014) moved a little towards “droughts” from the near-normal values of the winter.

In February, most anomalies moved back towards “droughts” from the “flooding rains” values of January. Rainfall became extremely low, but daily maximum temperature did not rise as far as “normal”.
Exceptionally, February daily minimum temperature and subsoil temperature became very low.

Fully smoothed data (red)

The latest fully-smoothed data anomalies (August 2014) complete the winter of 2014. Through the winter season, most values were static and near normal. (Dew point, like most recent values of that variable, was 3 degrees lower than normal.)

Spring 2007 climate much as usual

The daily weather log

As sometimes happens, temperatures did not rise in September until late in the month. They then rose to several degrees above normal and stayed there until the end of October. Early November was very cool, and mid-November warm. The daily temperature range increased in dry periods and decreased in rainy periods.
There were two late frosts below 2.2° in September.

Only 2.2 mm of rain fell in September. Much more fell later, in short wet spells around October 12th and 26th, and November 7th and 24th. The two best daily falls were 17 mm each. Total spring rainfall was 122 mm, falling on 23 rain days.

Very cloudy or overcast skies became common in November.

Comparing spring seasons

Although each month this spring had unusual temperatures, the three months taken together did not. Daily maximum, minimum and mean temperatures for the spring, as well as the daily temperature range (16.0°), were all normal. In the extreme drought of spring 2002, the values had been two degrees higher, and the daily temperature range 17.1°. The spring of 2001 had the lowest temperatures in this record.

Two frosts this spring compare with three on the average. Spring 2004 had 10 frosts, including one in mid-October, and one on 3rd November!

Spring rainfall in 2007 (122 mm) fell 44 mm short of the long-term average (166 mm), due to September being 39 mm down. October was only 6 mm down, and November 2 mm up. Spring rainfall averaged over the last nine years is above the long-term average, because the droughty spring of 2002 is more than balanced by the very wet springs of 1999, 2000, and 2005. These were in the ninth decile for spring rainfall.
